Directions

The event centre is the White Hart Inn, London Road, Basingstoke RG21 4AE. Only 0.6 miles from Basingstoke Station.

The best route in is Junction 6 of the M3 (Basingstoke A339), at the exit stay in the left lane through the roundabout (A30W), at the next roundabout turn left onto Ring Road (S), stay in the left lane, about 500m down turn left signposted Black Dam and Eastrop, at the top of the slope turn left for Eastrop and crossover the Ring Road, then turn right towards Eastrop, 500m on at the roundabout go left onto London Road, the White Hart Inn is 1Km along on the left.

There is some parking at the White Hart, if full there is free parking in Eastrop Lane, about 100 metre east on the opposite side of the road. Eastfield Avenue (off Eastrop Lane) can also be parked in as most of the single yellow lines can be parked on after 5pm.

Map/Areas

1:4,000 on A3 (double-sided) waterproof paper, 5m contours. Map recently updated in 2024; area comprises parks, some housing and Crabtree Wood. The underpass MUST be used to cross under the M3 access road. To leave and enter the War Memorial Park only the marked crossing points are to be used. The crossing of any dual-carriageway roads is strictly forbidden.

Courses

One hour score event, as per WNL guidelines. Straight Score event. The control number and points will be printed on the map. Loose control descriptions will be available at registration (NOT on the map). N.B. All juniors under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Punching start near the Inn, collect eTag, queue and go! Touch free EMIT will be used on all courses (hire included in entry fee). Everyone must report to Download (at the Inn) afterwards!!

Points 500 in total: 2 50 Point, 3 30 Point, 10 20 point and 11 10 Point. The higher the control number the higher the points.

Conduct

Please make yourself aware of and abide by the British Orienteering Participant Code of Conduct.

Times

Registration: - 17:45 to 18:45 inside the White Hart Inn for eTag collection & Download

Starts: - 18:00 to 19:00. Close to the White Hart Inn.

Sunset is around 17:30, starts may be delayed a bit to make sure it is dark!

Courses close: - promptly at 20:15 please.

Facilities

The White Hart Inn does not serve food but they are happy for food to be ordered and delivered to the Inn. Get your Just Eat or Uber Eats orders in before you run.

There is an Indian Takeaway about 150m away and a Pizza and Kebab place about 200m away.

Safety

All competitors must wear hi-viz tops and have sufficient lights to complete their course (take a back up!). No road crossings will be manned so please take care. Course/Points/safety details will be available on the night.

Do not cross any dual carriageways other than by the mandatory crossing points

Dogs

Dogs are allowed on the course and in the White Hart Inn.

Timing System

EMIT Touch-free on loan from EMIT UK.

Footwear

Mixed Terrain shoes would be recommended because of the mixed running environment.

On the Course

Its a touch free event just hover your wrist above the control and check that the eTag flashes.

Do not go anywhere near the start again after commencing your run it will clear your eTag.

Finish and Download

The Finish will be in the Inn Car Park.

After punching at the Finish please make your way to Download.

Results

Results will be available on race-results.info and on the club website.

Risk

Orienteering is an adventure sport; you are responsible for your own safety at the event and must not do anything that puts yourself or others at unnecessary risk.
