At the 2019 Southern Night Orienteering Championships held at Caerwent Army base near Chepstow, Chairman John Harrison successfully defended his title. It was a very cold, windy but dry night with an interesting mix of runnable rough grass terrain and dense thickets. There were derelict buildings scattered around the area with old ammunition stores surrounded by high earth bunds resulting in a need for fast running and close map contact. An interesting novelty were the grazing sheep who provided small spots of light from the reflections from groups of eyes - somewhat spooky until you became used to them!
