Event Information

Directions

The event centre is the Royal Oak, Charlton Road, Charlton, SP10 4AJ. It is 0.9 miles from Andover Station.

The best route in is from the A303/A343 Junction, follow the A343 ring road and exit left at the second roundabout signposted Charlton, at the next roundabout turn left again signposted Charlton at the next roundabout you will see the Royal Oak in front of you.

There is parking behind the Royal Oak, if it is full there is nearby street parking.

The Royal Oak is a Greene King pub, AA members can get 15% off via the app or online.

Map/Areas

1:5,000 on A3 waterproof paper, 5m contours. Map recently updated in 2024; area comprises parks (with numerous extensive water features and steep ground features), housing and industrial estate. Please use the underpasses to cross the A343. The crossing of any dual-carriageway roads is strictly forbidden.

Course

One hour score event, as per WNL guidelines. Straight Score event. The control number and points will be printed on the map. Loose control descriptions will be available at registration and printed on the back of the map. N.B. All juniors under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Punching start near the Inn, collect eTag, queue and go! Touch free EMIT will be used on all courses (hire included in entry fee). Everyone must report to Download (at the Pub) afterwards!!

30 controls, the control numbers are from 101 for 10 points up through the points to 130 for 50 points.

Times

Registration: - 17:45 to 18:45 inside the Royal Oak for eTag collection and Download

Starts: - 18:00 to 19:00. Close to the Royal Oak assembly location

Courses close: - promptly at 20:15 please.

Facilities

The Royal Oak is a Greene King so the menu is available online to view. Please note anyone who is an AA member can get a 15% discount via the App or online.

Safety

All competitors MUST wear hi-viz tops and have sufficient lights to complete their course (take a back up!). No road crossings will be manned so please take care and be responsible for your own safety. Course/Points/safety details will be available on the night.

Do not attempt to cross any dual carriageways other than by the mandatory crossing points.

Dogs

Dogs are allowed on the course.

Timing System

EMIT Touch-free on loan from EMIT UK.

Footwear

Mixed Terrain shoes are recommended because of the mixed running environment. Please remove before re-entering the pub.

On the Course

Its a touch free event just hover your wrist above the control and check that the eTag flashes.

Do not go anywhere near the Start again after commencing your run it will clear your eTag.

Finish and Download

The Finish will be near to the Pub.

After punching at the Finish please make your way to Download.

Results

Results will be available on race-results.info and on the club website.

Risk

Orienteering is an adventure sport; you are responsible for your own safety at the event and must not do anything that puts yourself or others at unnecessary risk.
